Launch in Puerto Rico: Paz Para Las Mujeres
May 10, 2022
We’re proud to support Paz Para Las Mujeres in their mission against domestic violence and sexual assault in Puerto Rico. The coalition is made up of 38 organizations and 14 individual members comprising of emergency shelters, direct service organizations, university and government programs, feminists and human rights activists who offer services and support for survivors of gender-based violence in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico declared a state of emergency for gender violence in January 2021. "Gender violence is a social evil, based on ignorance and attitudes that cannot have space or tolerance in the Puerto Rico that we aspire to," Gov. Pedro Pierluisi said in a news release. "It is my duty and my commitment as governor to establish a STOP to gender violence and for these purposes I have declared a state of emergency."
This was Seguro’s first international project involving a non-English language. Under the expert leadership of our polyglot Elisa Pirani, we worked with Paz Para Las Mujeres to design a localized conversational AI chatbot - in Spanish! Check out the “Como te ayudo” pop-up on the lower right of the newly designed website. Modules were developed to support questions related to housing, legal, children, protection orders, financial and emotional support. The goal was to help potential victims access critical information quickly and discreetly to better their situations in a convenient digital channel enabled by natural language technologies.
“We’re proud to support Paz Para Las Mujeres during this critical juncture in Puerto Rico’s fight against gender violence. Enabling a 24/7 digital solution in native Spanish will help users access important resources available across Puerto Rico” explained Elisa Pirani, our partnerships lead.
We continue to be grateful to Microsoft. As a grantee of the Microsoft AI for Good Humanitarian Action Program, we continued to leverage Microsoft’s Power Virtual Agent platform, which provided us with important native Spanish language support for this project.
